New Freeview Retune Dates Announced

A region-by-region reshuffle of Freeview frequencies to create space for future 5G mobile service, which starts in February, will require viewers in East Anglia and parts of Southern England to retune their TV receivers this Spring.

These changes also affect BT, TalkTalk, Plusnet and EE TV users as well as those accessing Freeview channels through a NOW TV Smart box.

For example, Crystal Palace (some relays – parts of Greater London & parts of the Home Counties) will need to retune on 18th April 2018.

Viewers should see on-screen notifications leading up to the changes in their area. If they lose any groups of channels on or after the retune date, they should ensure they rescan their TV or box. If they experience issues after this, there may be works required to their communal TV system and should contact their Managing Agent in the first instance, then us for further advice.

1. Sky without a Dish?

Initially announced in January 2017, Sky have now released more information one year later. They indicate probable introduction in the UK in 2019 after launch in Italy and Austria in 2018.

The aim being to launch all Sky channels and on demand content streamed over Internet Protocol.

Sky state they are aiming this more at those potential customers who cannot have a dish or do not want one.

And they emphasise that Sky are not proposing to stop broadcasting by satellite.

2. Sky Stick

Sky are launching a new “Sky Stick” which will sell for £14.99 that subscribers can plug into any TV set and receive Sky content streamed to it wherever they are.

Single Cable Solution

When Sky + was first introduced in 2002, communal satellite system options were limited and blocks with a single feed did not have the capacity to allow residents watch one show and record another or enjoy Sky Multiscreen. The Single Cable Solution (SCS) overcomes the previous limitations of a single feed system.
